The Old Pumping Station, United Kingdom

  • Founded: 2006
  • Employees: 30
  • Directors: 2

Nick and Louise started teapigs in 2006 with a mission to get the nation drinking real tea again. Louise is a trained tea taster – aprons, spoon and all. She’ll only ever choose the best quality tea there is – REAL whole tea leaves, whole herbs, whole berries, whole spices… you get the picture. No dusty tea. No artificial flavourings.

BIG tea = BIG flavour. Simple.

You can’t put BIG leaves in paper teabags so our teas come in biodegradable tea “temples” – a mesh bag that gives the leaves lots of room to infuse. Loose tea – without the fuss.

We have a huge range of 34 whole leaf teas all packed in sustainable, plant-based packaging.

We also have our own ethical scheme which gives back to the communities that bring us our tea.

  • Values
    • Community

We’re committed to giving back to communities that bring us our tea. Most of the tea for our signature everyday brew comes from Gisenyi, Rwanda and we work with the Point Foundation to support orphans and vulnerable young people in the area. We make a donation to the Point Foundation with every pack of everyday brew we sell. We also match donations our customers make on our website and run regular fundraising efforts. We’re also proud to support our local community: we’re a London Living Wage employer and our team regularly volunteers and provides tea for local charities, hospitals, schools and our local sports trust.

    • Environment

Our goal is to be the GREENEST tea company! 1. We source from sustainable, well-run estates 2. Our teas are 100% natural and tested against pesticides 3. We are members of the Rainforest Alliance, Ethical Tea Partnership and the Sustainable Restaurant Association 4. Our tea temples are made from cornstarch so they are compostable & you can put them with your food waste 5. All of our packaging is compostable, recyclable or reusable. Our pack cartons are FSC certified and we print using vegetable ink. Our clear inner bags are made from natureflex (derived from wood pulp) and is compostable.
